Man charged with theft

A Waverly man was recently charged with retail theft by Athens Township police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Garrett James Dauberman, 26, was also charged with criminal trespass, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and harassment.

Police said Dauberman removed over $1,000 worth of items from the Walmart store on Elmira Street, including a television, a desktop computer, headphones and an electronic music player.

Police said that while fleeing the store, Dauberman sped backward in his vehicle, turning the wheel and striking a shopping cart. The cart was thrown in the direction of a store employee, nearly striking him, police said. Dauberman also threatened to harm another employee while attempting to leave the store with the merchandise, police said.

Dauberman was arraigned Dec. 12 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. Dauberman's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.

Sayre man charged with assault

A Sayre man was recently charged with simple assault by Athens Borough police.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jason Robert Vandyke, 41, was also charged with harassment.

Police said Vandyke threw an adult male to the ground during a Dec. 8 altercation outside the American Legion on Public Street, causing minor head and elbow injuries.

Vandyke's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2014.

One injured in MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Litchfield Township.

According to information from state police, a 2007 Pontiac G5 operated by Guy Mavor, 84, of LeRaysville, was headed eastbound on Windham Summit Road at about 3:50 p.m. Dec. 3 when it traveled into the road's south side ditch and struck a tree, spinning approximately 180 degrees.

Greater Valley EMS transported Mavor to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for treatment of neck and right arm injuries of unknown severity, police said. Mavor was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, police said.

Police cited Mavor for failure to stay in lane, according to police.

Gillett woman charged with harassment

State police at Towanda recently charged a Gillett woman with simple assault and harassment following an altercation in Ridgebury Township.

According to state police information, Amber Star Smith, 30, is accused of being involved in a verbal argument that turned physical with an adult female Nov. 5 at a Berwick Turnpike residence.

Athens bar cited for liquor law violation

An Athens Borough bar was recently cited for violations, by the state Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement.

According to information provided by the bureau, Slammerz Bar and Grill, located at 506 S. Elmira St., was issued a citation Nov. 7 for permitting smoking in a public place where smoking is prohibited. The establishment is also accused of failure to post signage as required by the Clean Indoor Air Act, according to the bureau.

The charges will be brought before an administrative law judge who has the authority to impose monetary penalties or license suspension or revocation, according to the bureau.
