Drug paraphernalia charge filed
A Towanda man was recently charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by Athens Borough police.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Robert R. Lafy, 45, was found to be in possession of a glass pipe containing burnt residue during a Jan. 7 traffic stop at the Dandy Mini Mart on South Main Street.
Officers responded to the store at about 6:19 p.m. after receiving information that Lafy, who was wanted by the Bradford County Sheriff's Department, was at the location, according to police. Police said they observed Lafy entering an orange Chevrolet, which police then stopped.
Lafy's preliminary hearing on the drug paraphernalia charge is scheduled for Feb. 18.
One cited in Smithfield Twp. MVA
State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.
According to information from state police, at about 10:46 p.m. Jan. 2, a southbound 2002 Ford Explorer operated by Daniel R. Nauta, 19, of Troy, lost control while negotiating a right hand curve on Berwick Turnpike just south of Hoblet Road. Police said the vehicle struck a tree on the roadway's southern berm with its driver front corner.
Police said Nauta wore a seatbelt and was not injured. Police cited Nauta for speeding.
Junior's Towing assisted police at the scene, police said.
Police investigate crash
State police recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.
According to information from state police at Towanda, at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 8, a westbound 2006 Ford Explorer operated by Jessica M. Stevens, 18, of Milan, drove off a south side ditch on Peas Hill Road and struck a tree, then rolled over in the ditch. Police said the vehicle came to final rest on all four wheels.
Stevens was not injured and was wearing a seat belt, according to police. Police cited Stevens for a violation of driving on roadways laned for traffic.
Dave's Towing and the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
No injuries in Dushore MVA
State police at Laporte recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Dushore Borough.
According to state police, at about 3:38 p.m. Jan. 8, an eastbound 2001 Kia Sephia operated by Randy N. Weaver, 50, of Dushore, traveled off the north side of Cherry Street and struck several mailboxes before traveling into a small ditch. Police said Weaver then reversed the vehicle out of the ditch and left the scene.
Police located Weaver shortly thereafter and transported him to Towanda Memorial Hospital for a blood test, according to police. Police cited Weaver for careless driving, police said.
