Public drunkenness

THARPTOWN - Patrolman Chris Lapotsky has charged Andre A. Stone, 33, of 912 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with public drunkenness involving an incident at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Stone was found walking along Route 61 near the upper entrance to Tharptown while under the influence of alcohol.

Harassment

COAL TOWNSHIP - Pedro Carrasquillo, 51, of 1649 Tioga St., Coal Township, was charged by township police with harassment for a disturbance that occurred between 3:10 and 3:41 a.m. Saturday.

Police reported Carrasquillo went onto the front porch of the home of Autumn Engleheardt and Maria Hill at 1647 Tioga St., pounded on the front door and continually yelled.

Police were dispatched to the area and warned Carrasquillo not to return to the home. Police said Carrasquillo returned to the home, pounded on the door and began yelling again, shouting obscenities and threatening Engleheardt and Hill.

Shamokin woman injured

WEST BRUNSWICK TOWNSHIP - Coleen Lowry, 33, of Shamokin, was among two people injured Sunday morning in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 61 and Summer Valley Road (Route 895) in this Schuylkill County township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported Lowry was a passenger in a 2001 Nissan Altima operated by Michael Kripas, 37, of Reading. Lowry and Kripas were transported to West Reading Hospital after suffering injuries in the 11 a.m. crash.

Police said Kripas was driving north in the left lane of Route 61 due to construction at 11 a.m. when he failed to observe a 2004 Toyota Sienna operated by Michael Scandiffio, 62, of Neponsit, N.Y., who was stopped behind traffic for a steady red light. Police said the front end of Kripas' car struck the back end of the Sienna.

Both vehicles were towed by A&K Towing and northbound traffic on Route 61 was backed up for several miles until the scene was cleared.

Police said charges are pending against Kripas.

Scandiffio and his two passengers, Denise Scandiffio, 58, and Sophia Janezic, 93, both of Neponsit, N.Y., escaped injury.

Simple assault

COAL TOWNSHIP - William Lee Taylor, 27, of 128 Iron St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Edward Purcell with simple assault and harassment relating to a domestic disturbance Friday afternoon.

Police reported Taylor is accused of throwing a soda bottle that struck his live-in girlfriend, Jennifer Broscious, in the face, causing her to suffer a swollen lip at about 3 p.m. He also allegedly pushed Broscious off the front of their residence, causing her to fall on her back and strike her head on the ground.

Broscious was knocked unconscious temporarily and was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Taylor was arraigned at 7 p.m. Friday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to prison in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Theft occurs in Franklin Twp.

State police said they are trying to determine who stole a number of wheels and tires from a camp at the intersection of Mountain Road and Long Valley Road in Franklin Township.

The property belongs to Ronald Miller of Springfield, Pa., police said.

The theft occurred on Thursday, police said.

Towanda man accused of scattering rubbish

Norman Luther Rawls, 28, of Towanda is being charged with scattering rubbish after he dumped four bags of garbage on the property of the Wysox Dollar General, police said.

The incident occurred Friday morning, police said.

Woman charged with DUI after Colley Twp. crash

A Wyoming County woman was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after she was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Colley Township, Sullivan County, police said.

Ashley N. Ely, 24, of Monroe Township, Wyoming County, was driving north on state Route 87 when her vehicle struck a guide rail on the east side of the road with its undercarriage, police said.

The vehicle then crossed both lanes of Route 87 and traveled into a ditch, state police said.

Ely and her two passengers were uninjured, police said.

Ely was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, state police at Laporte said.

Towanda man charged with fleeing from police

Brent Bailey, 38, of Towanda has been charged with the third-degree felony of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, police said.

The charge stems from an April 15 incident in which Bailey ran a stop sign at the intersection of Colonial Drive and Patterson Boulevard in North Towanda Township, and then failed to stop for police once their emergency lights and siren were activated, police said.

Bailey was operating a motorcycle at the time of the incident, state police at Towanda said.

Bailey's preliminary hearing, which was originally scheduled for April 29 on Towanda District Court, has been postponed twice, and is currently scheduled to take place on June 17.

Athens man charged with violation of Megan's Law

Skylar Smith, 23, of Athens has been charged with failure to comply with the registration requirements of sexual offenders, police said.

The charge stems from an April 14 incident, state police at Towanda said.

Smith's preliminary hearing, which was originally scheduled for May 20 in Towanda District Court, has been postponed to May 27.

DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Howard Raymond Brown, 24, of Athens, by Athens Borough Police, on Jan. 28, on Spruce Street in Athens Borough. Brown was also charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police officers, driving with an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle, careless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, operation of a vehicle without a valid certificate of inspection, and failure to notify change or name or address. A blood alcohol test later revealed that Brown's blood alcohol content was .24 percent on the day of his arrest. Brown was remanded to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Brown will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on May 26 for his preliminary hearing.

Jeffrey Ralph Sturzenegger, 62, of Sayre, by Athens Borough Police, on April 22, on North Elmira Street in Athens Borough. Sturzenegger was also charged with failure to obey posted speed limit, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and operating a vehicle without official certificate of inspection. A blood alcohol test later revealed that Sturzenegger's blood alcohol content was .184 percent on the day of his arrest. Sturzenegger has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on June 19 for his preliminary hearing.

Christopher Lee Priest, 35, of Mcalester, Okla., by Sayre Borough Police, on May 16, on North Lehigh Avenue in Sayre Borough. Priest was also charged with public drunkenness. Priest later refused to submit to a blood test to determine his blood alcohol content. Priest has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on May 26 for his preliminary hearing

Sayre woman charged after physical altercation

Athens Borough Police charged Chelsea Vanderpool, 18, of Sayre, with attempted simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment following a physical altercation in South Waverly on March 31, according to Athens police.

According to a criminal complaint filed by police, Vanderpool attacked another woman when the woman "swung her arms toward her" when the woman and others were picking up clothing from Vanderpool's residence.

The fight began with Vanderpool attacking the victim while the victim was seated in a car and subsequently spilled into the roadway, police said.

Police said Vanderpool's grandmother stopped the altercation after others became involved.

The victims of the altercation suffered facial abrasions and lacerations, as well as bites on the legs and lacerations on their hands.

A victim told police she was unable to get away from Vanderpool because Vanderpool attacked her while she was seated in a car, police said.

Vanderpool has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 23 for her preliminary hearing.

Drug charges for Athens man

Kody James Konco, 20, of Athens, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia possession by Athens Borough Police on April 30, according to Athens police.

According to police, an Athens Borough Public Works employee told police he saw two young men "smoking suspicious items" near the municipal parking lot on South Elmira Street.

When police arrived at the suspects' location, they found Konco and a juvenile smoking what appeared to be cigarettes, but police said they detected a scent of marijuana and the men attempted to put the lit cigarette in their pockets, police said.

Both men admitted to smoking marijuana, and Konco said he has a medical condition and felts he needs the marijuana but did not have a prescription for marijuana, police said.

Konco has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 23 for his preliminary hearing.

Smithfield Twp. burglary, theft under investigation

Towanda state police are investigating an incident that took place on May 1 at about 9:22 p.m. at a Ballantine Road location in Smithfield Township, police said.

According to police, an 18-inch white, orange, and yellow Husqvarna chainsaw was stolen from the location.

Police said the actor or actors also attempted to pry open a door to a camper and pried open the front door to the house trailer, causing damage to the door.

Inside, the actor or actors stole a black 39 inch Vizio flat screen TV with the serial number LTYWNQAQ0853623 and a black Blu-ray disc player, police said.

Police said the actor or actors fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Rape investigation

State police at Towanda said they are investigating an allegation that a 51-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a male individual known by her during May 2014 at a private residence in Troy Township.

Mailbox damaged

State police at Mansfield said they are investigating an incident that took place between 1:45 p.m. and 2 p.m. May 14 on River Road in Ward Township, Tioga County, Pa. in which two unknown actors in a small blue hatchback car with a cracked windshield damaged the mailbox of Curt Brennan, 63, of Troy.

SHAMOKIN - Andrew Reich III, 22, of 720 N. Franklin St., was cited for public drunkenness by Shamokin City Police Patrolman William Zalinski after being found under the influence of alcohol in the 400 block of North Shamokin Street at 3:10 a.m. Saturday.

Counterfeit money

MONROE TOWNSHIP - State police at Selinsgrove are investigating the use of counterfeit money at several businesses along Routes 11 and 15 on Saturday.

Police report the suspects, described as four black males used counterfeit bills to make purchases at Aldi's, Auto Zone, Panera Bread, Michael's and Walmart, between 5:45 and 7:15 p.m. Two of the males were described as wearing white t-shirts, a third was wearing a black and gray jacket and dark hat, while the fourth wore a red t-shirt.

Police say the investigation continues into the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 570-374-8145.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN - Richard D. Kleman Jr., 40, June E. Schaffner, 40, both of 545 S. Seventh St., and a 13-year-old female were all cited for harassment following the investigation into a Dec. 10 incident at Kleman's residence.

According to Shamokin City Police Cpl. Jarrod Scandle, the offenses occurred in a family dispute when the juvenile struck Schaffner in the face, Schaffner had physical contact with the juvenile and Kleman struck the juvenile in the face, causing her nose to bleed.

Guilty pleas

SHAMOKIN - Jonathan Gregory, 29, of 869 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, and Charles Troup III, 21, of 439 W. Gowen St., Shamokin, were sentenced to one year probation and fined $300 each after the two men pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia during their preliminary hearings Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic.

The two men were charged by Coal Township Police after a traffic stop near Odd Fellows Cemetery Oct. 12.

Waverly woman charged with marijuana, paraphernalia possession

Sayre Borough Police charged Molly R. Gentile, 21, of Waverly, with possession or distribution of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop on May 6, according to Sayre police.

Police said while running speed enforcement, they observed a female, later identified as Gentile, driving with no hands on the wheel while holding and attempting to light a glass bowl.

Police stopped Gentile, who admitted to trying to light a pipe filled with marijuana, police said.

Gentile passed a field sobriety test and police retrieved a glass bowl containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana as well as a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance and a green grinder containing marijuana, police said.

According to police, the substance tested positive for marijuana and weighed approximately 4 grams.

Gentile has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 23 for her preliminary hearing.

Multiple charges filed against Lockwood, N.Y. man

Sayre Borough Police filed several charges against Bryan Richard Benninger, 23, of Lockwood, N.Y., after witnessing a vehicle cut off another at the Spring Street Dandy Mini Mart in Sayre, according to Sayre police.

On May 6, police saw a car pull into the Dandy Mini Mart parking lot at a high rate of speed and subsequently cut off another vehicle heading north on Spring Street, police said.

Police approached the car and asked the driver, later identified as Benninger, why he was going so fast.

When speaking with Benninger, police noticed an odor of burnt marijuana in the vehicle, police said.

Benninger did not provide police with proof of registration or insurance, police said,

Benninger told police he smoked marijuana in the car the day before, but he still had a pipe in the vehicle, which police found along with several empty blunt wrappers, police said.

Police also found a smoked blunt containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the ashtray, police said.

Benninger was charged with possession or distribution of a small amount of marijuana, paraphernalia possession, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, driving with required registration and title certificate, operating a vehicle following suspension of registration, operating a vehicle without an official inspection certificate, and operating a vehicle with unapproved tires.

Benninger has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 30 for his preliminary hearing.

Theft at Advanced Auto Parts

Christopher Martin Travis, 27, of Burlington was charged by state police with theft by deception, receiving stolen property and making false reports to law enforcement relating to an April 5 incident at Advanced Auto Parts in Wysox Township.

According to police, Travis made a fraudulent purchase from the auto parts store under an account named "KC Automotive" that totalled $301.98.

Travis then later attempted to receive a cash refund for the items, police said.

Travis has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton at 3:45 p.m. on June 2 for a preliminary hearing.

Wyalusing man charged

Matthew Vangorder, 20, of Wyalusing has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and underage possession of alcohol relating to an April 11 incident on Taylor Avenue in Wyalusing Borough.

According to police, Vangorder was involved in an incident that involved an overdose of a 13-year-old female who was flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville by helicopter to receive treatment.

Police investigating the incident found Vangorder with two other juveniles and a 2-month-old child. The two juveniles and Vangorder were found to be under the influence of a type of depressant drug, police said.

After obtaining consent to search the residence, police found synthetic marijuana, multiple glass pipes and an open container of alcohol hidden throughout the house.

Vangorder has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton at 3:30 p.m. on June 2 for a preliminary hearing.

Juveniles cited

SHAMOKIN - Three juveniles, a 17-year-old Shamokin male, a 14-year-old Paxinos female, and a 15-year-old Mount Carmel female, were cited for underage drinking and violating Shamokin's curfew ordinance after being found intoxicated on Packer Street near Rock Street at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Liquor law violations

WILLIAMSPORT - An area fire company and a Mount Carmel business were cited Thursday by the Pennsylvania State Police's Bureau for Liquor Enforcement.

The Brady Fire Association No. 1 of Johnson City, of Ranshaw, was cited for failing to maintain complete and truthful records covering the operation of the licensed business for a period of two years, immediately preceding April 2 concerning the local option small games of chance act. The fire company also used, or permitted to be used on the inside of the licensed premises, a loudspeaker or similar device where the sound of music or other entertainment could be heard beyond the property line.

The 5 C's, 15 E. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, was cited for failing to maintain complete and truthful records covering the operation of the licensed business for a period of two years, immediately preceding Jan. 13.

The charges will be brought before an administrative law judge, who has the authority to impose penalties ranging from $50 to $1,000 for minor offenses and up to $5,000 for more serious offenses. In addition, the judge can impose a license suspension or revocation of the license based on the severity of the charge and can mandate training for the licensee.

MONROE TOWNSHIP - State police at Selinsgrove reported a black male between the ages of 18 and 25 passed two counterfeit $50 bills at Giant in the Monroe Market Place at 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the man who passed the counterfeit money is 6 feet, 3 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a white T-shirt and knee-length blue shorts.

Sunbury man hospitalized

WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP - Maurice Wilkinson, 68, of Sunbury, was transported by Milton Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after suffering a medical emergency that led to an accident Wednesday afternoon in front of 4635 Route 405 in this Northumberland County township.

State police at Milton reported Wilkinson was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra south shortly after 1 p.m. when he had a medical emergency, causing his vehicle to exit the right side of the road, strike a traffic sign, descend an embankment and hit a parked 1995 tractor-trailer.

Wilkinson's vehicle sustained disabling damage while the tractor-trailer had minor damage.

Inmate charged

COAL TOWNSHIP - Gregory Garrett Brown, 51, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township, was charged by Trooper David Myers of state police at Stonington with aggravated harassment by a prisoner and harassment relating to an April 29 incident at the state prison.

Police reported Brown allegedly threw urine from his cell at Correctional Officer Jose Brito. Police said the urine struck Brito in the face and chest.

Trespassing charges filed against Athens man

According to Athens Borough Police, Michael B. Nichols Jr., 45, of Athens, was charged with defiant trespassing, scattering rubbish, and trespassing by motor vehicle by Athens police following a May 9 incident in Athens Borough.

Police said Nichols' girlfriend called police after he kicked in the door at her residence and passed out on her couch.

Nichols' girlfriend told police that he was heavily intoxicated and that he was driving his Jeep on the Chemung River dike, police said.

She also told police Nichols smashed the basement door after becoming angry when she told Nichols he was not permitted to drive on the dike, police said.

Police observed Nichols' Jeep, a kayak and trailer, fishing equipment, and several beer cans at the dike, police said.

Police woke Nichols at the residence, where they found several cases of beer, and asked him why he was drinking while on probation, police said.

Police said Nichols told police he was not drinking, but police smelled alcohol on Nichols as well as observed his glassy, bloodshot eyes.

Nichols admitted to having his Jeep on the dike despite postings prohibiting vehicles on the dike, police said.

Nichols told police he was drinking by the river then passed out again on the couch, police said.

Nichols has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 23 for his preliminary hearing.

Gillett man charged with violating PFA order

Towanda state police said Anthony J. Steenberge, 23, of Gillett, violated a protection from abuse order.

According to police, Steenberge was taken into custody after police discovered the active no contact PFA existed with Steenberge's wife as the plaintiff and Steenberge as the defendant during an investigation of a verbal altercation on May 11 at about 10:55 a.m.

Police said Steenberge was charged with contempt for violation of order or agreement.

Gillett woman charged with retail theft

Danielle Lynn Smith, 33, of Gillett, was charged with retail theft by Athens Township Police on May 14 after attempting to take items from the Elmira Street Walmart in Sayre, according to Athens police.

Police said Walmart's asset protection associate was notified by a cashier that two women, one later identified at Smith, were not paying for all of the merchandise they were bagging at the self-checkout register.

The associate witnessed Smith scan some items and not scan others then put the items in her bag, police said.

The associate stopped Smith before she exited the store and took Smith to her office where she added up 45 unpaid items, totaling $257.68, police said.

Police said Smith pleaded guilty to retail theft charges in 2004.

Trevorton Road accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in front of 1620 Trevorton Road near Annabelle's Restaurant.

Patrolman Matthew Hashuga said Margaret Bednarcik, 91, of Coal Township, was driving a 2003 Buick Century south on Route 225 shortly before 4 p.m. when she signaled to make a left turn near Annabelle's. Police said Bednarcik slowed down and came to a stop in the southbound lane while waiting for northbound traffic to pass so she could make a left turn into a driveway at 1620 Trevorton Road.

At that point, Hashuga said a 2003 Mazda Protege operated by Erin Dehart, 18, of Saint Thomas, who was traveling south on Route 225, rear-ended Bednarcik's car. Police said Dehart attempted to stop to avoid a collision, but was unable to do so.

Both drivers were evaluated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Dehart's car sustained front-end damage and was towed from the scene. Bednarcik's auto sustained rear-end damage.

Dehart was cited by Hashuga for careless driving.

Route 61 crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - Two drivers escaped injury in a rear-end collision Friday morning at the intersection of Route 61 and traffic signal at Burger King.

Patrolman Chris Williams, who investigated the 7 a.m. crash, reported Catherine H. Burns, of 34 S. First St., Shamokin, had her 2013 Toyota stopped on Route 61 for a red light when a 1988 Chevrolet truck driven south on the highway by Robert T. Neidig Jr., of 125 S. Scattering rubbish

COAL TOWNSHIP - Terrance Hoey II, 32, of 1256 Pulaski Ave., was cited by police for scattering rubbish after allegedly dumping household trash on Susquehanna coal lands, near Coal Run, between March 25 and May 22.

Canton crash reported

Canton police said that they were called to a two-car motor vehicle crash at approximately 7:44 a.m. May 20 in front of Canton High School.

According to a news release, police arrived to find both vehicles had been removed from the point of impact. The driver of one of the vehicles was Gerald Spencer, 90, of Canton. Police said he was driving his 2010 red Jeep north on Little Street, came to the stop sign, and pulled out onto East Main Street and into the path of a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by James Horton of Canton, which was traveling west on East Main Street.

Police said damage to Horton's truck was on the driver's side and there was front-end damage to Spencer's vehicle. According to police, Horton and his passengers were not injured, and Spencer refused treatment by Western Alliance, but was talked into going to the hospital to be checked out, as he was having trouble breathing. Police said he went by private vehicle. Canton police were assisted at the scene by Western Alliance and Canton Fire Department. Both vehicles were driven from the scene, police said.

Theft charges for Nichols woman

Athens Township Police have charged Jennifer Faye Norton, 30, of Nichols, with retail theft and receiving stolen property after Norton attempted to steal $145.31 of merchandise from the Sayre Walmart, Athens police said.

According to police, Walmart's asset protection associate saw two women she suspected of taking items without paying for the items.

The associate told police one of the women, later identified as Norton, took a cart full of merchandise to the self checkout and scanned a few items in the cart and used a UPC bar code valued at .50 cents in her hand to scan the other, police said.

A video showed Norton scanning the items then using the UPC code in lieu of the actual item's code as well as Norton placing unscanned items in her bag, police said.

Police said the .50 cent UPC code was used 12 times and 23 items were placed in Norton's bag and never paid for.

The unpaid items totaled $145.31, police said.

Police said Norton previously pleaded guilty to a summary retail theft charge in 2005.

Norton has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 30 for her preliminary hearing.

Athens woman facing drug paraphernalia charges

Alexandra Kaitlyn Anderson, 19, of Athens, was charged with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia by Athens Township Police after a May 16 incident, according to Athens police.

Police responded to a call regarding a drug overdose where they spoke with a witness who said she saw Anderson unresponsive in her vehicle, police said.

Anderson was taken into a Greater Valley EMS ambulance and police found four wax papers with "SHINE" and a diamond printed on them in plain view in Anderson's purse, police said.

Police later made contact with Anderson at Robert Packer Hospital where she told police she injected heroin with a hypodermic needle in her leg, police said.

Police seized the needle, which was in Anderson's jacket.

Anderson has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 30 for her preliminary hearing.

Sayre woman charged with terroristic threats

Sayre Borough Police charged Rosemary Scholes, 47, of Sayre, with terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, harassment, and disorderly conduct after Scholes threatened her brother on May 17 at his residence, Sayre police said.

Police said Scholes was attempting to get property back from her brother that he was keeping as evidence in a civil case against Scholes.

When her brother told Scholes to leave, she began threatening him, saying she would "blow up his vehicles and destroy his home," according to the criminal complaint filed against Scholes.

Her brother threatened to call police and Scholes told her brother she "would have his legs broken," police said.

Her brother also told police Scholes had numerous individuals with her for an intimidation factor and that every time Scholes made a threat, they would make cheering noises in support of her threats, police said.

Scholes' brother told police he was in fear of his life and feared Scholes may damage his property, police said.

Scholes has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 30 for her preliminary hearing.

Athens man charged with trespassing, public drunkenness

James Thomas Wells Sr., 45, of Athens, was charged with criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness by Athens Township Police on May 20, according to Athens police.

Police said they received a report of a man who entered a residence, causing a female to flee the residence.

Police said the woman, who owns the residence, told police she was inside when a man opened her back door and entered the residence.

She asked the man what he wanted and he mumbled a response then walked toward her, police said.

She grabbed her phone, ran outside, and called 911, police said.

Police found Wells under the influence sitting at her kitchen table and took him into custody, police said.

Wells was remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Wells will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 2 for his preliminary hearing.

Towanda man spends money after receiving funds in error

David Samuel Parker Jr., 21, of Towanda has been charged with theft relating to a March 11 incident that occurred at the Craftmaster Federal Credit Union in Wysox Township.

Police said an IRS tax refund was mistakenly sent to Parker's account in the amount of $1,366 on March 3, and on March 11 Parker withdrew $1,350 from his account.

Craftmaster realized the mistake on March 16 and contacted Parker to repay the money, police said. Parker then told Craftmaster that he was unable to repay the money because he had spent it, police said.

Parker has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on June 23 at 1 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.

DUI charges

The following people have recently been charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Crystal Lynn Tracy, 28, of Wyalusing, by state police, on April 25, on State Route 706 in Wyalusing Township.

Tracy has also been charged with failing to stay in her lane, careless driving and driving without a seatbelt.

A blood test revealed that on the day of her arrest Tracy had a blood alcohol content of .187 percent.

Tracy has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on June 5 at 10:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.

Mitchel Edward McPhillips, 21, of Barton, N.Y., by state police, on April 29, on State Route 187 in Rome Township.

McPhillips has also been charged with failing to stay in his lane and careless driving.

A blood test revealed that on the day of his arrest McPhillips had a blood alcohol content of .174 percent.

McPhillips has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on June 5 at 10:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.

Nathan James Murray, 39, of Wyalusing, by state police, on April 26, on State Route 6 in Wyalusing Township.

Murray has also been charged with failing to stay in his lane and careless driving.

A blood test revealed that on the day of his arrest Murray had a blood alcohol content of .175 percent.

Murray has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on June 5 at 10:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.

Jesse Gustin, 31, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to the offense of Theft by Unlawful Taking, a misdemeanor of the third degree and was sentenced to court costs. Trooper Terence Foley of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Gustin for the offense on March 28, 2015, following investigation of a Theft that occurred in Asylum Township.

Richard Harvey, 42, Meshoppen, Pa., entered a plea of guilty before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to the offense of Possession of a Small amount of Marijuana, a misdemeanor and was sentenced to 30 days and court costs. Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett reported that the following persons were recently sentenced in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Daniel L. Bell, 65, of Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility for two years to 19 years for the offenses including unlawful firearm possession, possession of child pornography and unlawfully recording another person, three felonies and two misdemeanors. Bell's sentence will run consecutive to a 23 month sentence imposed for an earlier case. Bell will be a lifetime registered sex offender as a result of the sentence. Detective Albert Ogden of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Bell for the offenses in 2014.

Matthew McLinko, 21, of Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for four days to six months for one count of DUI and 15 days (flat), followed by County Intermediate Punishment for 24 months, on another count of DUI (County Intermediate Punishment involves a combination of restrictions and supervision. It may include home confinement, electronic monitoring, and substance abuse treatment. Violations can result in incarceration.), fines, costs and restitution of $2,500. He was also ordered to lose his driver's license for 30 months. He was also ARD revoked on one count, for the offense of two counts of DUI, a misdemeanor, and one count, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Trooper Brandon Allis of the Pennsylvania State Police and Trooper Christopher Schelling also of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested McLinko following investigation of incidents that occurred in Athens Township.

Jonathan Houghtalen, 29, Waverly, N.Y., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for 90 days to 23 ½ months, fines of $1,500 and court costs for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Officer Derek Dekar of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Houghtalen for the offense in September 2014.

Joshua Brown, 33, Canton, Pa., was resentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for six months to 12 months, fines of $250 plus court costs and restitution of $2,425.03, for the offense of Theft by Unlawful Taking, a misdemeanor of the third degree. Trooper George Layou of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Brown following investigation of an incident that occurred in Canton Township in November 2012.

Angie Wise, 24, of Sayre, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for 156 days to 23 ½ months and restitution of $120, for the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a Felony. Officer Bruce Hoffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Wise for the offense in December 2014.

Angie Wise, 24, of Sayre, Pa., was sentenced to Probation supervision for a term of 12 months, for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor. Officer Bruce Hoffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Wise for the offense in August 2013.

Richard Henderson, 27, Athens, Pa., was sentenced to Probation supervision for a term of two years, fines of $500.00, plus court costs and restitution of $200 for the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a felony. Trooper Robert Hutchison of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Henderson following investigation of an incident that occurred in Athens Borough in December 2013.

Charles Kenyon, 58, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for 30 days to six months, fines of $750 plus court costs for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Levi R. Foux, 33, Sugar Run, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Harassment, a summary offense. While on probation, Perry will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Perry must perform community service. Officer John Fedorchak of the Athens Township Police Department filed the charges.

Derek Wells, 18, Athens, Pa., charged with the offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Wells will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Officer Jason Serfas of the Athens Township Police arrested Wells for the offense in January 2015, for the offense in Athens Township.

Cynthia Larson, 44, Wysox, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Larson will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Larson must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and she will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Trooper David Sweeney of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Larson for the offense.

Kristy Houseknecht, 26, Athens, Pa., charged with the offense of Retail Theft, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation Houseknecht will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Houseknecht must perform 24 hours of community service. Officer Jason Serfas of the Athens Township Police arrested Houseknecht for the offense on Dec. 21, 2014 in Athens Township.

Richard Moss, 75, Milan, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on Probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Moss will be subject to supervision which will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Moss must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days. Trooper Jeffrey Creedon of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Moss for the offense.

Theft of leased property

COAL TOWNSHIP - Christine Gebhard, 35, of 1154 Poplar St., Kulpmont, was charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with theft of leased property and receiving stolen property.

Police said Gebhard leased a stove, refrigerator, sofa, recliner, computer tablet, bunk beds, washer and dryer and two cell phones from Rent-A-Center on Route 61 between Nov. 28 and March 3, but stopped making payments and retained all the items except for the computer tablet and cell phones. Police reported Gebhart owed a balance of $6,429.96.

Underage drinking

COAL TOWNSHIP - Cpl. Terry Ketchem issued 15 citations for underage drinking after responding to a suspected underage drinking party at 1631 E. Webster St. May 15.

Alyson Benzhafer, Kathleen Knowles, Marissa Maceira, Emelia Lee, Bryan Pacan, Leah Mulholland, James Rosas, Sean Murray, Amanda Fagan, Ronald Shousky III, Tyler Mcveigh, Jessica Beiderman and Johnathan Wojtiq, all 18; Charles Gangloff, 19, and Adam Valentin, 20, all of Philadelphia, were cited for underage drinking.

Ketchem said police seized more than 18 cases of beer, several coolers of beer, several bottles of liquor and several bags containing alcohol. An adult relative drove from Philadelphia to Coal Township to stay with the teenagers to keep them from leaving the residence until the next day.

Ketchem also noted the home, rented by Russel Rentals, had deplorable conditions, including a non-working toilet. A rusted jagged pipe sticking out of the ground caused a female teenager to suffer a laceration to her leg, sending her to the hospital for stitches, he said. The property is described on www.russel-rentals.com as a "remodeled cozy cottage" that sleeps up to 10 people.

Domestic disturbance

THARPTOWN - Coal Township Cpl. Joshua Wynn has charged James Fuchek, 49, of 118 Tharp St., Tharptown, with simple assault and harassment relating to a domestic disturbance shortly after midnight Sunday.

Police reported Fuchek is accused of punching his live-in girlfriend, Dianna Grazul, in the face at their home. Grazul suffered a bruise on her face, police said.

Fuchek was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum of Sunbury and committed to Snyder County Prison in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Sayre woman charged with theft, receiving stolen property

Athens Township police charged Desprea Ann Grover, 19, of Sayre, with theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property on May 15, Athens police said.

According to police, the victim contacted police and told them Grover stole a television belonging to her and her daughter from their home on state Route 199 in Athens.

Police said the mother told police that her daughter saw Grover leave the residence, taking some items, including clothes and a comforter, with her.

One item was a 42 inch Vizio television that the mother loaned to the daughter, police said.

The daughter texted Grover, telling her to return the TV but Grover said she was not bringing the TV back and that it was her TV, police said.

The daughter told Grover she was going to call police, but Grover related that she didn't care, police said.

Police were not able to contact Grover and the mother said if Grover returned the TV she would not press charges, police said.

Grover has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on July 7 for her preliminary hearing.

Sayre Walmart theft leads to charges

Valerie Adis Lamb, 55, of Waverly, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property by Athens Township Police following a May 17 incident at the Elmira Street Walmart in Sayre, Athens police said.

Walmart's asset protection associate notified police of a woman, later identified as Lamb, who she suspected of taking items without paying for them, police said.

The associate told police she watched Lamb remove tags from six reusable Walmart cloth bags and place three boxes of cat food in her cart, police said.

Lamb was then seen on security cameras picking out flowers and two deli chickens and the associate said Lamb used the cloth bags to cover the items in the cart and exited the store without paying for them, police said.

Then Lamb re-entered the store and the associate said she saw Lamb take 35 items before exiting the store without paying, police said.

The associate stopped Lamb and took her to the asset protection office where police found seven unpaid pudding boxes in her purse, police said.

Lamb denied stealing any items when she first entered Walmart, but after being told the asset protection associate would show officers the video, Lamb admitted to taking the flowers and cat food, police said.

Lamb told police the items were at her house and she would return them the next day, police said.

According to police, Lamb pleaded guilty to retail theft charges in 1983.

Lamb has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 30 for her preliminary hearing.

Athens man charged with assault, disorderly conduct, harassment

Athens Township Police charged Howard Richard Cook, 51, with simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment by physical contact after the attack of another man on May 22, Athens police said.

Police said the victim told police he was at a friend's house and while sitting on the porch he was punched on the left side of his face "out of nowhere."

The victim told police he was continuously punched in the head and kicked, then saw it was Cook who was attacking him, police said.

The victim told Cook to stop and Cook began striking him harder, police said.

When the attack stopped, the victim told police Cook said, "this isn't over yet," police said.

Police observed swelling on the victim's face around his eyes and cheeks, police said.

Cook told police he attacked the victim due to a previous incident between them, police said.

Cook has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on July 7 for his preliminary hearing.

DUI charge

The following person was recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Austen Allyn McGee, 24, of Towanda, by state police, on May 11, on State Route 706 approximately half a mile from Water Street in Wyalusing Township.

McGee was also charged with failing to stay in his lane and charges related to not stopping after being involved in an accident.

A blood test revealed that on the night of his arrest, McGee had a blood alcohol content of .214 percent.

McGee has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on June 19 at 10:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.
