Man accused of assault in Asylum Twp.

Ryan Michael Shaffer, 25, is accused of assaulting his girlfriend recently in their home on state Route 187 in Asylum Township, police said.

Shaffer forced her to the ground, injuring her back, state police said.

Shaffer was charged with the second-degree misdemeanor of simple assault and the summary offense of harassment, court records show.

The incident occurred at 6:05 p.m. on Aug. 20, state police at Towanda said.

Woman injured in Standing Stone crash

Saundra J. Skates, 50, of Tulsa, Okla., suffered a moderate injury in a recent motor vehicle accident in Standing Stone Township, police said.

The accident occurred at 5:28 p.m. on Aug. 21 as Skates was driving a 2010 Freightliner truck tractor east on U.S. Route 6, west of Keene Summit Road, police said.

Skates lost control of the vehicle, which traveled onto the eastbound berm and struck a ditch, state police at Towanda said.

Crash occurs in N. Towanda Twp.

No one was injured in a recent motor vehicle accident on U.S. Route 6 in North Towanda Township, police said.

The accident occurred as two vehicles - a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and a 2006 Ford Ranger - were traveling east on U.S. Route 6 in North Towanda Township, police said.

The Ford Ranger was stopped, because its driver was trying to make a left-hand turn into the Edge Fitness parking lot, police said.

Twenty-three-year-old Jonathan W. Brown of Towanda, who was driving the Jeep Cherokee, did not see that the Ford Ranger was stopped, and his vehicle struck the rear of the Ford Ranger, police said.

Brown, who lives on Fourth Street in Towanda Borough, was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 4:50 p.m. on Aug. 21, state police said.

Man charged with criminal trespass in Towanda

Michael Lee Bormann, 24, is facing a third-degree felony charge of criminal trespass after he was caught inside a residence in Towanda without the landlord's permission, police said.

The residence, which is located at 20 Packer Ave., is owned by an Eric Overpeck, police said.

Overpeck told police that several Packer Avenue residents had telephoned him to report that people were "crashing" at the residence, according to the Towanda police.

Overpeck told the police that the only person who had permission to live in the residence was another man, who was working out of town at the time, according to the police.

Bormann was arrested on Aug. 22, police said.

Current court documents list no address for Bormann. However, as of last spring, Bormann's address was in Towanda.

Bormann was arraigned by Towanda Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox on Aug. 22. He was then sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of bail.

Bormann must attend a preliminary hearing before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark today (Wednesday).

No one injured

State police at Towanda said no one was injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:27 a.m. Aug. 17 on Baker Road in Wells Township.

Police said Dylan S. Bird, 17, of Millerton, was traveling west on Baker Road, east of Jennings Road, and tried to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway while traveling about 55 mph. According to police, he lost control of his Dodge Ram, which left the road on the northern berm, struck a tree with the front driver's side, and traveled onto the southern berm, where it struck an embankment with its front end area, prior to coming to final rest.

Tools stolen

John A. Petro, 60, of Monroeton, told state police at Towanda that someone stole various hand and power tools from his basement, detached three-car garage, and shed sometime between Aug. 15-16 in West Burlington Township.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to contact the Towanda station at (570) 265-2186.

Pump taken

A 61-year-old Troy woman told state police at Towanda that someone entered her barn at 12:51 p.m. Aug. 16 off Route 6 in Troy Township and stole a pool pump.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Towanda station at (570) 265-2186.

Purse taken

State police at Towanda said they are investigating the theft of a purse that occurred at 12:45 p.m. Aug. 13 in the parking lot of Nothin' Fancy on Fallbrook Road in Troy Township.

Police said a white male, in his late teens or early 20's and wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a ball cap, attempted to pawn several items at Nothin' Fancy, but the owner declined, so the male left the store and then entered a customer's unlocked vehicle in the parking lot and stole a purse. Police said he fled on foot down Fallbrook Road toward Troy.

The victim was a 70-year-old Troy woman, police said.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Towanda station at (570) 265-2186.
