Theft charges

SHAMOKIN DAM - Damean Rivera-Flores, 27, of Sunbury, will be charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing $299.95 in merchandise from Best Buy in Monroe Marketplace along Routes 11/15 about 11:20 a.m. Jan. 9, according to state police at Selinsgrove.

Crash near Vets Bridge

SHAMOKIN DAM - A 21-year-old Sunbury woman escaped injury after crashing into a concrete barrier along the on-ramp to the Veteran's Memorial Bridge.

Jordan M. Reinhardt was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry and was merging onto Route 61 south about 7:05 a.m. Saturday when her vehicle drove over a patch of ice, causing her to lose control, according to state police at Selinsgrove.

She will be charged with driving too fast for conditions, police said.

Earrings stolen

HUMMELS WHARF - A 16-year-old juvenile was cited by state police at Selinsgrove for retail theft for allegedly stealing two pairs of earrings about 8:10 p.m. Saturday from Claire's Boutique inside the Susquehanna Valley Mall, Routes 11/15.

One vehicle accident in Terry Twp.

John Voda, 45, of Wyalusing has been charged by state police with careless driving relating to a one vehicle accident on Wyalusing New Albany Road in Terry Township on Dec. 27.

According to police, Voda was traveling up hill and exiting a left curve when he crossed lanes and struck an embankment.

The 2006 Dodge Ram then rolled onto its drivers side and came to a rest blocking both lanes of travel.

Police said it is not known if Voda was injured during the accident.

No injuries reported

No injuries were suffered in a DUI crash at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 9 on Route 220 near the Dandy in New Albany, said state police at Towanda.

According to police, Joshua Michael Cummiskey, 24, of New Albany, was the driver.

He was driving a 1993 Ford Ranger and was making a right turn out of the Dandy parking lot. Police said he accelerated at a high rate of speed, causing the tires to spin. This caused the vehicle to overturn on its left side.

Dushore EMS and New Albany Fire were on the scene.

Police said he is being charged with DUI, careless driving and violations of "driving at safe speeds" and "restraint systems." Police said he wasn't wearing a seat belt.

His vehicle had "functional damage," police said.

Officials: Death of man found near police parking lot ruled a suicide

FRACKVILLE - A Pottsville man was found dead Saturday night at the edge of the Pennsylvania State Police barracks' parking lot in West Mahanoy Township.

William T. Pilconis, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:11 p.m. by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Joseph Pothering, Minersville. The death has been ruled a suicide, and a virtual autopsy will be performed as part of the investigation.

It was just after 6 p.m. when the Schuylkill County Communications Center dispatched Frackville EMS for a report of a person down in the barracks parking lot on Eleanor Drive. A short time later, the center reported that a county official, a coroner, was requested.

At the scene, police stood at the northern end of the parking lot, close to a wooded area, where Pilconis' body was discovered. The man's family was notified, and police said a public information release will not be issued per the department's policy on suicides.

Deputy Coroner Andrew Szczyglak, Shenandoah, assisted at the scene.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Timothy Hamm, 28, and Macey Hamm, 21, both of Monroeton, were charged by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft for allegedly removing $196.04 worth of merchandise from Walmart Supercenter along Route 61 Nov. 23.

Bicycle stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Richard Wright, 39, of Lynn Street, Coal Township, reported someone stole an Orange County Choppers special edition bicycle from his yard Friday or Saturday.

The black and pink bike is valued at $375.

Anyone with information about the stolen bike is urged to call Coal Township police at 570-644-0333.

Waste accumulation

COAL TOWNSHIP - Joseph Ramer, 44, of 1525 Wabash St., Coal Township, was cited by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky for accumulating waste on a vacant property he owns at 1533 Wabash St.

The waste was observed Oct. 4.

Teens cited in fight

SHAMOKIN - A 15-year-old female and a 14-year-old girl, both of Shamokin, were cited by Patrolman Raymond Siko II for disorderly conduct involving a fight shortly before 3 p.m. Friday at a bus stop at Shamokin and Chestnut streets.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN - Zackary Sorak, 18, of Wilkes-Barre, was cited by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for harassment for allegedly threatening to kill Sean Sutton and Kristine Keil over the telephone at 10:40 p.m. Dec. 26.

Police said the offense took place on Seventh Street.

Underage drinking

SHAMOKIN - A 17-year-old Shamokin male was cited by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for underage drinking relating to an incident at 2:33 a.m. Sunday at Independence and Diamond streets.

DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Patience Durgin, 37, of Athens, by Athens Borough police, on Jan. 5, on South Main Street in Athens. A blood alcohol test revealed that Durgin's blood alcohol content was .25 percent on the day of her arrest. Durgin has been sent a summons to appear Feb. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.

Jeffery Aaron Middleton, 40, of Barton, N.Y., by Athens Borough police, on Dec. 31, on South Main Street in Athens. Middleton was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and careless driving. A blood alcohol test revealed that Middleton's blood alcohol content was .29 percent and he had marijuana in his system on the day of his arrest. Middleton has been sent a summons to appear Feb. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.

Man charged with trespassing

An Athens man was recently arrested by Athens Township police on a charge of criminal trespassing.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Daniel Vavra, 42, was also charged with theft by unlawful taking and corruption of minors.

Police said Vavra and two juvenile males used a stick to pry into a Route 220 property and removed an electrical cord and miscellaneous signs from the property on Oct. 17, 2013. Police said Vavra and the juveniles also damaged a computer, printer and 13 remote control helicopters, boats and cars, with the total damage valued at about $4,000.

Vavra was arraigned Jan. 13 and released from the Bradford County Jail on non-monetary bail. Vavra's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21.

Marijuana possession charge

A Wysox woman was recently charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana by Sayre Borough police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Kimberly Sue Darrow, 33, was also charged with disorderly conduct.

Police said Darrow was charged after refusing to stop yelling obscenities at a female at about 1:40 a.m. Jan. 11 on the 100 block of Desmond Street. Darrow was in possession of a small bag of marijuana, police said.

Darrow's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 18.

Vandalism occurs in Towanda

A 50-year-old woman reported that the back window of her vehicle had been smashed out when it was parked at her residence on Railroad Street in Towanda, police said.

The woman reported that she noticed the smashed window at approximately 8 a.m. on Jan. 5, state police said.

Towanda man charged in DUI crash

Bryon Christopher Bailey, 30, of Towanda has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was involved in a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of Beebe Hill and Woodside roads in Monroe Township, police said.

During the accident, which occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 21, the vehicle rolled onto its side and severed a stabilizing cable to a utility pole, police said.

Bailey, who was uninjured, fled the scene of the accident, and was apprehended a short time after the crash at a nearby residence, state police said.

The vehicle that Bailey was driving belonged to his cousin, and she had not given him permission to use it, police said.

Besides DUI, Bailey was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, failure to notify police that he was involved in the accident, driving with a suspended license, and several traffic violations, police said.

Bailey has been sent a summons which orders him to appear before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Feb. 14.

Burglary occurs in Standing Stone

State police said they are trying to determine who unlawfully entered a foreclosed home in Standing Stone Township and stole several panels of copper piping from the property.

The burglar or burglars entered the residence, which is located on Tamarak Road, through an unlocked door, and also smashed one of the building's windows with a stone, police said.

The burglary occurred sometime between 8 p.m. on Nov. 20 and 8:20 a.m. on Dec. 31, police said.

Police seek suspect in Monroe Boro theft

A 20-year-old male named Derek Doss is accused of unlawfully taking a purse from a woman's home in Monroe Borough, police said.

The purse belongs to 34-year-old Jessica Arnold, police said.

The theft occurred at 9 p.m. on Dec. 30, police said.

State police said they are trying to locate Doss for questioning. Anyone with information on Doss' whereabouts is asked to contact the state police at Towanda at (570) 265-2186.

The state police did not provide an address for Doss.

Man faces hearing on DUI

Patrick Joseph Shults, 20, of Troy, faces a preliminary hearing at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 15 before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy on DUI and other charges for an incident that took place at 3:17 a.m. Dec. 7 in downtown Troy, according to court papers.

The papers note that Shults is charged with two counts of DUI, one count of DUI: Minors - first offense, a violation of "obedience to traffic control devices," and purchase, consumption, possession and/or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages.

According to an affidavit, Troy Police Officer Michael Northup was notified by county dispatch of a car at the red light which hadn't moved. He found a silver Ford four-door sedan sitting in the left turning lane on Elmira Street, with the driver, Shults, slumped over and the vehicle still running and in park.

Shults' blood-alcohol content was .188 percent.

Wilcox set Shults' unsecure bail at $10,000.

People taken to hospital

State police at Towanda said three people were taken to Troy Community Hospital following a one-vehicle crash at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 29 on Windfall Road in Canton Township.

Police said the driver was Sasha Chilson, 32, of Granville Summit, and there were two passengers, a 10-year-old female and a 10-year-old male.

According to police, Chilson was traveling west and lost control of the vehicle while traveling straight. Police said the vehicle left the road and struck a tree on the north side of Windfall Road, coming to final rest against the tree.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Canton Auto Body and police were assisted at the scene by the Canton Volunteer Fire Department and Western Alliance EMS.

Man not injured

State police at Towanda said Dillon J. Benjamin, 20, of Monroeton, was not injured in a crash at 3:25 p.m. Jan. 1 on Route 14 in Canton Township.

According to police, he was traveling north and was negotiating a left curve when his Ford Ranger left the roadway and entered the northbound berm. It struck a traffic sign and an embankment before coming to final rest, facing east in the northbound berm.

Police said Benjamin was charged with a violation of "driving on roadways laned for traffic."

Police were assisted by Canton Auto Body.

Mailbox removed

State police at Towanda said they are investigating a report of a mailbox being removed from the property of a 61-year-old Troy man sometime between 6 p.m. Dec. 28 and 3:36 p.m. Dec. 29 on Greenough Road in Troy Township.

Police said there are no suspects at this time and anyone with information can contact police at (570) 265-2186.

Four taken to hospital

State police at Towanda said four people were transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda following a one-vehicle crash at 11:45 a.m. Dec. 29 on Route 414 in Leroy Township.

Police said the driver was Tyler Marshall, 18, of LeRaysville, and there were three passengers, a 9-year-old male, a 12-year-old female, and a 17-year-old male.

According to police, Marshall was traveling west on Route 414 and lost control of the vehicle while going straight after making a left hand turn. The vehicle then struck a guide rail on the south berm of Route 414, spun and traveled back across the roadway. It went into a ditch on the north side of the road, where it came to final rest.

The Canton Volunteer Fire Department and Western Alliance EMS assisted police at the scene.

Chains taken

State police at Towanda said George Casselbury, 27, of Towanda Township, allegedly took three log chains from the residence of Timothy Saunders, 25, of Warren Township, at 4:40 p.m. Jan. 5 on Cadice Road in Warren Township.

Police said he fled the scene in a black Ford Expedition. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Threat made

State police at Towanda said Bobbi Jo Snook, 39, of Troy, made a verbal threat at 3:06 p.m. Dec. 11 at Guthrie Troy Practice in Troy Township. Police said she was charged with terroristic threats and harassment.

Man waives DUI case

Robert William Coles, Jr., 43, of Windfall Road, Granville Summit, who was charged with two counts of DUI and other charges, has waived his case to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, according to the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Joshua R. Fisher responded to a one-vehicle crash at approximately 7:16 p.m. Aug. 11 in which Coles lost control of his vehicle, due to his physical condition, according to an affidavit. The vehicle exited the northern edge of the roadway, striking a mailbox, continued westbound, and stopped at the intersection of State Route 514 and Don Packard Road.

In addition, Coles was charged with a lane violation, a violation of "restriction on alcoholic beverages," and careless driving.

Police said Coles' blood-alcohol content was .219 percent.

TREVORTON - The owners of The Bowery, 400 W. Market St., were cited by the state Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for an alleged noise violation on Sept. 28. The citation was issued Thursday.

Harassment

SNYDERTOWN - David Edward Roush Jr., 41, of Northumberland, will be charged for harassment by state Trooper Daniel J. Wilk for allegedly leaving "unwanted voice messages" on the answering machine of Alvin D. Yoder, 59, of Sunbury, about 8:47 p.m. Sunday, according to a public information release from state police at Stonington.

Retail thefts

COAL TOWNSHIP - Two Mount Carmel Township men will be charged by Coal Township Patrolman Matthew J. Hashuga with retail theft for allegedly stealing from Walmart in separate incidents last month.

David Balonis, 54, of Strong, is accused of stealing $815.60 in merchandise between Dec. 10 and Dec. 19.

David DiSciullo, 27, of Atlas, is accused of stealing $545.66 in merchandise on Dec. 23.

Vandalism

MANDATA - Robert Earnest Logan, 19, of Shamokin RD, was charged by state police at Stonington with institutional vandalism and disorderly conduct for removing a sealed container of pepper spray from a metal lock box at about 2 p.m. Monday and spraying it at the ceiling of a classroom occupied by 12 students and three teachers at Line Mountain High School.

Police said one student was affected by the spray and treated by a nurse.

Police said Logan is a student at Line Mountain High School.

Driver escapes injury

LOWER MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - Hunter B. Lewis, 23, of Dornsife, escaped injury in a one-car accident Monday morning on Route 147 near township route 319.

State police at Stonington reported Lewis was driving 1999 Volkswagen Jetta south at 5:50 a.m. when the car exited the right side of the highway and struck a snow pile. The Jetta then crossed into the northbound lane and hit an embankment on the east side of the road, causing it to roll over. It stopped on its roof in the northbound lane.

Burglary charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Robert Phillip Rath, 38, of 21 N. Locust St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Lt. Chris Buhay with burglary, criminal trespass, illegally possessing a firearm, theft and receiving stolen property.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Rath is accused of stealing a .32-caliber pistol and medication from the residence of Joseph Durovick, 23 N. Locust St., between Nov. 11 and Nov. 22.

Rath was arraigned Monday by Jones and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Kristen Thomas, 24, of 10 N. Marshall St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for retail theft for allegedly stealing $8.42 worth of merchandise from the Dollar General on East Independence Street at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday.

MOUNT CARMEL - The following hearings took place Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court Feb. 24 at the Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n Courtney Pancher, 20, of 349 S. Seventh St., Shamokin, was sentenced to nine months probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Kelly Campbell following a March 10 traffic stop on Locust Gap Highway.

Charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and a citation for rear lighting requirements were withdrawn.

n Ryan K. Kristiansen, 25, of 401 N. Shamokin St., Apt. 2, Shamokin, was sentenced to nine months probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Kelly Campbell in connection with a Nov. 20 traffic stop on Route 901.

Two other counts of possession of drug parphernalia were withdrawn.

n A retail theft charge was waived to court by Sean R. Baker, 27, of 18 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel.

Baker was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Chief Brian Hollenbush after an alleged theft of medication from Boyer's Food Market Dec. 12.

n Michael J. Katinsky Sr., 61, of 430 W. Fig St., Mount Carmel, waived two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count each of careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Shane Reamer in connection with an Oct. 26 traffic stop at Sixth and Poplar streets.

n Andrew L. Spishock, 70, of 819 Centre St., Apt. 202, Ashland, waived a charge of retail theft.

He was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Daniel Politza after allegedly attempting to steal $66.11 of merchandise from Boyer's Food Market Dec. 1.

n Megan Bucher, 21, of 18 N. Locust St., Mount Carmel, waived two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count each of failure to obey traffic control devices and restrictions on alcoholic beverages.

She was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Matthew Dillman following an Oct. 19 incident in the first block of South Apple Street. Police said Bucher had a blood-alcohol content of .170 percent.

n Joshua Daya, 20, of 134 W. Center St., Apt. 2A, Elysburg, waived a felony count of retail theft.

He was charged by Ralpho Township Police Patrolman Bryon Chowka for allegedly stealing $18.63 of merchandise from Sheetz between Aug. 29 and Sept. 29. The charge is a felony because the incident is the third time Daya has been charged with retail theft.

n Gerald R. O'Brien, 56, of 28 Perry Ave., Lot 19, Bloomsburg, waived two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The charges were filed by Riverside Police Patrolman Gerard Zeidler relating to a Dec. 6 incident at Avenue G and Snyder's Lane. Police reported O'Brien had a blood-alcohol content of .296 percent.

n Two counts of driving under the influence and a citation for careless driving were waived to court by Joseph P. Cirrilla, 27, of 139B Hastings Ave., Rutherford, N.J.

Cirrilla was charged by Riverside Borough Police Patrolman Kerry Parkes following a Nov. 24 accident on Avenue E.

n Jolene E. Reich, 39, of 550 Spruce St., Kulpmont, waived two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and a tire equipment violation.

She was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Kelly Campbell following a Nov. 17 incident on Route 61 in Atlas. Police reported Reich had a blood-alcohol content of .11 percent.
