Gas theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police said Ronald Nalewak, of 1800 Tioga St., Lot 10, Coal Township, reported an unknown person removed $30 worth of gasoline from his 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee while it was parked near his home sometime between 1 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Monday.

Drugs

SHAMOKIN - Coal Township police filed charges of possessing spice and drug paraphernalia against Jonathan Gregory, 29, of 869 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, and Charles Troup III, 21, of 439 W. Gowen St., Shamokin.

Police said they found Gregory and Troup parked in a car on a road near Odd Fellows Cemetery, Trevorton Road, smoking Spice from a metal pipe at 8:12 a.m. Oct. 4.

Both admitted to smoking the Spice when interviewed by the police, the criminal complaint says.

DUI sentencing

SUNBURY - Lucas Krankowski, 37, of Coal Township, was sentenced Monday afternoon by Northumberland County Judge Charles Saylor to a total of 12 months intermediate punishment with the first 120 days on house arrest on two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Krankowski also was ordered to pay $2,500 in fines plus costs and fees, will lose his driver's license for 30 months, must undergo counseling and is prohibited from bars and drinking alcohol.

The defendant, who was represented by county conflicts counsel Sue Schwartz, received six months intermediate punishment with the first 90 days on house arrest for a DUI committed Nov. 25, 2013, in Shamokin. He also received six months intermediate punishment with the first 30 days on house arrest for a DUI committed in Shamokin on March 12, 2010.

Public drunkenness

MOUNT CARMEL - Michael John Conches, 42, of 125 East Ave., Mount Carmel, was cited by Chief of Police Todd Owens for public drunkenness involving an incident shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday.

Police said Conches, who was an absconder from Pennsylvania State Parole, was observed in the area of Fifth

and Oak streets. He initially tried to leave the area, but was detained and the warrant was confirmed.

While speaking to Conches, police said he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and his speech was slurred. He had urinated in his pants, police said.

Conches also was wanted by Shamokin police on an outstanding warrant.

He was transported to Mount Carmel Police Station before being turned over to Shamokin police.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Dennis Sosnoski, 43, of 1239 Tioga St., Coal Township, reported a vehicle struck his chain-link fence late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, causing it to fall apart and bend.

Gym bag found

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police here reported a gym bag was found Wednesday morning in the Ferndale ballfield area and brought to the township police station.

The owner of the bag can claim it by contacting police at 570-644-0333.

Burglaries

SUNBURY - City police are investigating two recent burglaries.

On April 15, police reported someone entered an apartment at 358 1/2 Market St. through a window and removed various items.

On Monday, police were dispatched to a report of a burglary at Sports Zone, 228 Market St., where someone attempted to enter the business by smashing the front window.

Vehicle break-ins

SUNBURY - Police here reported multiple vehicle break-ins occurred between 10 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday in the 100 and 900 blocks of Reagan Street, 200 block of North Ninth Street and 1200 block of Highland Avenue.

Handgun stolen

SUNBURY - City police are investigating the theft of a handgun from a vehicle parked in a lot in the 1100 block of North Fourth Street.

DUI defendant sentenced

SUNBURY - Robert Hertzog Jr., 21, of Mount Carmel, was sentenced Wednesday by Northumberland County Judge Charles Saylor to 30 days to six months in Northumberland County Prison on two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Hertzog also will lose his driver's license for 24 months and was ordered to pay $2,000 in fines plus costs. He must undergo outpatient counseling and is prohibited from bars and alcohol.

He will begin his sentence Monday, May 4.

Hertzog was charged by Mount Carmel and Mount Carmel Township police in connection with incidents on Dec. 21, 2013, and May 12, 2014, respectively.

Burglary in Smithfield

Towanda state police charged Rinaldo Edward Depaola, 24, of Williamsport, with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, and receiving stolen property following a Feb. 6 incident in Smithfield Township, state police said.

According to police, Depaola broke into a residence on Sunnyside Road in Smithfield between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Feb 6.

Police said Depaola is incarcerated at the Lycoming County Prison on unrelated charges.

Police said Depaola will appear before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox at a later date for his preliminary hearing.

Orwell man's identity stolen

Towanda state police said an Orwell man went to file his tax return only to be notified that someone already tried to file the return in his name.

According to police, the incident took place on Feb. 22 at 8 a.m.

Police said there are no suspects in the case.

Sayre man charged with DUI

A Sayre man was charged with DUI by Towanda state police on April 3 while driving on U.S. Route 220, state police said.

Jon R. Watkins, 30, of Sayre, was arrested for DUI after troopers stopped him after violating a traffic code, police said.

Driver uninjured after hitting deer

Nathan D. Krager, 18, of LeRaysville, hit a deer while driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer on state Route 467 in Pike Township, according to Towanda state police.

On April 11 at about 12:15 a.m., police said Krager was heading south on Route 467 when he hit the deer and then struck the guardrail in the northbound lane.

Police said Krager was uninjured and the vehicle did not require towing.

Ridgebury home burglarized

Towanda state police said on April 19 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., a home on Thompson Hill Road in Ridgebury was burglarized.

Police said an unknown actor or actors entered the residence through an unlocked window and stole two sets of Dewalt tools, a Lincoln grease gun, and a Craftsman mig-welder.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - A 12-year-old city girl and a 13-year-old Orwigsburg female were cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver for disorderly conduct for allegedly smashing windows at the former Shroyer dress factory at 4:10 p.m. Sunday.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Andrew E. Brown, 29, of 345 S. Fifth St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle for retail theft for attempting to get credit for a laundry detergent container he removed from a shelf at CVS Pharmacy Feb. 26.

Citations filed

State police at Towanda said non-traffic citations for confinement of dogs and criminal trespass were filed following an incident that took place at 7:30 p.m. March 24 on Roaring Run Road in South Creek Township.

According to police, those involved in the incident were Alan Cook, 49, and Paul Crispell, 31, both of South Creek Township.

Police said Cook's dog bit Crispell, who was riding his bicycle on the roadway. Crispell confronted Cook, and refused to leave his property after being told to do so by Cook, police said.

Harassment reported

State police at Towanda said a harassment incident took place at 10 a.m. March 30 on Route 6 at the intersection with Porter Road in Sylvania Borough.

According to police, Gary Ritz, 73, of Troy, who was the victim, and Robert Abbott, 47, of Troy, had a dispute over the location and placement of a mailbox. Police said Abbott removed Ritz's mailbox, but later returned it to its proper location for unknown reasons.

Endicott man charged with paraphernalia possession

Athens Borough Police charged Mathew Corey Decker, 19, of Endicott, with possession of drug paraphernalia after conducting a traffic stop for speeding, Athens police said.

On April 11, police stopped Decker on U.S. Route 220 after observing him driving at 80 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone, police said.

After giving Decker the citation, police noticed a strong burnt marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, police said.

Decker told police he had a glass pipe in his center console, which police found, police said.

According to police, the pipe contained a burnt green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

Decker has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on May 26 for his preliminary hearing.

Waverly man charged with drug possession, delivery

Towanda state police charged Manley Charles Chapman, 26, of Waverly, with drug possession, drug delivery, and criminal use of a communication facility after confidential informants purchased drugs from him, police said.

According to police, an informant told police Chapman was looking to sell heroin on Jan. 15.

Police instructed the informant to arrange a sale for $150 worth of heroin, police said.

The informant met Chapman at the Elmira Street Walmart in Sayre where they obtained 10 bags of heroin from Chapman, police said.

Chapman will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on May 5 for his preliminary hearing.

DUI charge

The following person was recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

James Edward Ely, 29, of Sayre, by Athens Borough Police, on April 1 on Spruce Street in Athens Borough. Ely was also charged with operating a vehicle without insurance, driving with a suspended license, and failure to turn off high beams. A blood alcohol test later revealed Ely's blood alcohol content to be .303 percent on the day of his arrest. Ely has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on May 22 for his preliminary hearing.

Tharptown disturbance

THARPTOWN - An April 18 disturbance involving a gun and parking complaint in the 600 block of Center Street near the Tharptown playground remains under investigation.

Approximately a dozen children and adults were at the playground at the time of the incident.

Coal Township Police Chief William Carpenter reported charges are pending against two individuals relating to the 4:10 p.m. dispute.

He said police have received conflicting statements regarding exactly what happened during the incident that resulted in no injuries.

"We are taking this incident seriously and charges are pending," he said. The chief said he couldn't release any other details of the case until charges are filed, which he expects to happen Monday.

Patrolman Joshua Wynn and Detective Jeff Brennan are the investigating officers.

Stolen pills

KULPMONT - Edward Dennis Paul, 48, of 916 Scott St., Apt. B, Kulpmont, is accused of stealing prescription medication. He allegedly stole pain pills from a woman, same address, who was hospitalized between March 31 and April 8. The woman called police after Paul allegedly confessed. Additional medication was also stolen, police said, but could not be accurately identified.

Paul is charged by Kulpmont Police Chief Michael Pitcavage with theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Spice charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Alex Matthew Schlief, 18, of 4540 State Route 61, Paxinos, is charged by Lt. Christopher Buhay with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said Schlief possessed synthetic marijuana or "spice," Sept. 27 near Seventh and Poplar streets. He was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Pot, booze

KULPMONT - Dianna Higginbotham, 47, of 637 Pine St., Kulpmont, is charged by Patrolman David Tomtishen with three counts of driving under the influence and a traffic signal violation. Police said she made an illegal right turn onto Chestnut Street (Route 61) at the traffic signal Feb. 24. Police said she failed field sobriety testing, and that her blood alcohol content was 0.122 percent, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 percent. She also tested positive for marijuana, police said.

Driving high

RIVERSIDE - Cody J. Rainier, 23, of 845 Bottom Road, Millville, is accused of driving while impaired on marijuana related to a traffic stop April 10 at Sunbury Road and Oak Street.

Riverside Patrolman Timothy Kiefaber charged Rainier with two counts of driving under the influence of marijuana and one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

Police said Rainier confessed to possessing marijuana after his vehicle was stopped about 5:30 p.m. for traveling 51 mph in a 35-mph zone, and also confessed to smoking the drug earlier that afternoon. Passengers in his vehicle included a 9-year-old child. Blood testing confirmed the presence of marijuana in his system, according to a criminal complaint.

Guilty plea

RIVERSIDE - Wallace Ellis Seltzer Jr., 30, of 106 Eyer Road, Danville, pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones to one year probation and a $500 fine plus costs. One count of possession of a controlled substance was withdrawn.

Trooper Dan Wilk of state police at Stonington responded to 33 Hummer Road in Rush Township, near Riverside, about 11 a.m. March 31 following a 911 hang-up call. Seltzer was taken into custody at the home for violating a protection from abuse order, and was found in possession of a small amount of synthetic marijuana or "spice."

Copper wiring/cables taken

State police at Towanda said someone unknown gained unlawful access to the Penelec/First Energy power station premises sometime between 8 a.m. April 14 and 8 a.m. April 15 on Brague Road in Canton Township, and stole a large amount of copper wiring/cables.

Pistol stolen

State police at Towanda said someone gained access to the residence of Robert Michael Tofts, 31, of Springfield, sometime between 6:15 a.m. and 9:21 p.m. April 16 on Springfield Road in Springfield Township, and stole/removed a silver Taurus PT140 40-caliber pistol with black handgrips.

Police said Tofts' black trail camera on his porch was also stolen.

Rubbish scattered

State police at Towanda said someone placed three bags of garbage on the property of Margaret Weibach, no age given, of Gillett sometime between Feb. 1 and April 14 on Dewey Hollow Road, approximately .3 miles west of Scott Road, and fled the scene.

Pair charged with harassment

State police at Towanda said a charge of harassment was filed on Shawn David Hart, 33, and Jennifer Lynn Hart, 29, both of Columbia Cross Roads through District Court 42-3-01.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper William McDermott said he responded at 8:45 p.m. April 18 to a residence on Big Pond Road in Springfield Township for a report of a physical altercation between a husband and wife. He said both people subjected each other to unwanted physical contact.

Charges filed

State police at Towanda said charges were filed in Magisterial District Court 42-3-01 following a harassment incident that took place at 8:18 p.m. April 12 on Route 14 in Troy Township.

Police said a 17-year-old Troy male shoved the victim in the incident, Victor Paul Chaapel Jr., 56, of Troy, into his vehicle.

Man arrested for DUI

State police at Mansfield said Carl Erich, 27, of Waverly, N.Y. was arrested for DUI, with charges pending through District Court 4-03-03, following an incident at approximately 6:44 p.m. April 16 in the area of Lambs Creek Boat Launch in Richmond Township, Tioga County, Pa.

Police said Erich parked his vehicle off the side of the road, and upon contact with him, he was determined to be DUI.

No one injured

State police at Towanda said no one was injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 9:10 p.m. April 18 on North Lake Road in Springfield Township.

According to police, Amanda S. Malone, 18, of Troy, was traveling west on North Lake Road. When negotiating a left curve, she lost control of her Chevrolet Cavalier for unknown reasons, police said. Her vehicle then traveled to the westbound shoulder of the road, and struck a ditch with its front end/front passenger quarter panel area. Police said it then struck a tree and mailboxes with its front end/front passenger quarter panel area on the westbound shoulder of the road. It came to final rest, facing west on North Lake Road, police said.

A passenger in her vehicle wasn't injured, police said.

Police said Malone was charged with a violation of "roadways laned for traffic."

Charles Saxon, 48, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania Correctional Facility of from six months to 18 months, fines of $750.00, plus court costs, for the offense of Possession with intent to Deliver, a felony. Trooper Mike Adams of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Saxon following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Borough.

Charles Saxon, 48, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to Probation supervision for a term of 12 months and fines of $250.00, plus court costs and restitution of $200.00, for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor. Trooper Mike Adams of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Saxon following investigation of an incident that occurred in Wysox Borough.

Joseph Goodman, 48, Sayre, Pa., was sentenced to Probation for a term of 12 months, fines of $250.00 plus court costs, for the offense of Disorderly Conduct, a misdemeanor of the third degree. Officer George Nichols of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Goodman for the offense in September 2014.

Joseph Goodman, 48, Sayre, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for 85 days to 18 months, followed by Probation supervision for a term of 15 months, fines of $850.00 plus court costs, for the offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor of the second degree and Criminal Mischief, a summary offense. Officer Sean Flynn of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Goodman for the offense in September 2014.

Joseph Goodman, 48, Sayre, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for five days to five months, 29 days, fines of $1,000.00, plus court costs, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Officer Steve Burlingame of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Goodman for the offense in November 2014.

John Schwartzbauer, 29, Sayre, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for five days to six months, fines of $300 plus court costs, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Officer Bruce Hoffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Schwartzbauer for the offense in July 2014.

Suann Dyar, 33, Granville Summit, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in a Pennsylvania Correctional Facility for a term of five months to 24 months, fines of $300.00 plus court costs, for the offense of Criminal Mischief, a felony of the third degree. Trooper Kyle Gruber of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Dyar following investigation of an incident that occurred in Columbia Township.

Suann Dyar, 33, Granville Summit, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in a Pennsylvania Correctional Facility for a term of six months to 60 months, fines of $1,500.00 plus court costs, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. William Schrader, 64, of Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for 72 hours to six months, fines of $1,000.00 and court costs, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Trooper Brandon Allis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Schrader following investigation of an incident that occurred in Monroe Township.

William Schrader, 64, of Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to Probation supervision for a term of 12 months, fines of $250.00 and court costs, for the offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Trooper Keith Roman of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Schrader following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett reported that the following persons recently entered guilty pleas in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Monica Kitchen, 60, Dushore, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of two counts of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, both misdemeanors. Kitchen will be sentenced on June 11, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Michael Tribendis of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Kitchen following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township.

Heather Powell, 39, Towanda, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of two counts of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, one a misdemeanor, and the other a misdemeanor of the first degree. Powell will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Bryan Bellows and Officer Corey McLinko of Towanda Borough arrested Powell for the offenses on Aug. 10, 2014, and Feb. 4, 2015.

Christopher Montemurao, 26, LeRaysville, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Montemurao will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Jeremy Horton of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Montemurao for the offense on Jan. 24, 2015.

Denitta Alteri, 45, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Simple Assault, a misdemeanor of the second degree.

Alteri will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Travis Snyder of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Alteri for the offense on Nov. 4, 2014.

Jeffery Middleton, 42, Barton, N.Y., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Middleton will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Andrew Stevens of the Athens Borough Police Department arrested Middleton for the offense on Dec. 31, 2013.

Dwight Johnson, 20, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Burglary, a felony of the second degree, and Theft, a felony three. Johnson will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Denny Slater of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Johnson for the offense on Nov. 30, 2014 and Dec. 10, 2014.

Donald Morgenstern, 58, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to Theft, a misdemeanor of the third degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, Driving under Suspension, a summary offense. Morgenstern will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Bruce Hoffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department and Officer Corey McLinko of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Morgenstern for the offenses on Oct. 17, 2013 and Nov. 26, 2014.

Richard Leighton, 69, Monroeton, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Homicide by Vehicle, a felony of the third degree. Leighton will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Peter Smith of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Leighton following investigation of an incident that occurred in Monroe Township.

Raymond Searles, 45, Barton, N.Y., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Searles will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Richard Horton of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Searles for the offense on Nov. 21, 2014.

William Weidman, 31, New Albany, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Weidman will be sentenced on June 4, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Michael Moser of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Weidman following investigation of an incident that occurred in Overton Township.

Mary Brennan, 51, Athens, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Retail Theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Brennan will be sentenced on June 1, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Thomas VanFleet of the Athens Township Police Department arrested Brennan for the offense on Nov. 10, 2014.

Tina Lane, 49, Towanda, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession with Intent to Deliver, a felony. Lane will be sentenced on June 1, 2015, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Lyndon Johnson, 52, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Criminal Trespass, a felony of the third degree. Officer Nathan Ross of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Johnson for the offense in Sayre, Pa. in December 2014.

Joseph Keezer, 45, Wysox, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor. Simple assault

RINGTOWN - A borough man faces charges of simple assault and harassment following a domestic assault at 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Strawberry Lane, Ringtown, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville report Jeffrey Houser, 39, of Ringtown, was taken into custody after the assault of a 37-year-old Ashland female at the Strawberry Lane location. Houser was arraigned before an on-call Magisterial District Judge and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Institutional vandalism

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 17-year-old male from Shamokin was charged by Patrolman Christopher Lapotsky with institutional vandalism, unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving without a license for causing approximately $570 damage to a lawn on Shamokin Area School District property.

Police said the teen drove a vehicle on the rain-soaked lawn at 4:13 a.m. April 21 before it became stuck and had to be removed by a tow truck.

The charges were filed through Northumberland County Juvenile Services.

Towanda man accused of disorderly conduct

According to Towanda state police, a Towanda man is accused of disorderly conduct following an April 15 incident in Sheshequin Township.

Police said Kevin Sorensen, 50, of Towanda, was using obscene language on Woodside Terrace at about 10:30 p.m.

Gasoline stolen in Albany Twp.

Approximately 75 gallons of gasoline were stolen from the Albany Township building on April 20, according to Towanda state police.

Police said between midnight and 8 a.m. on April 20, an unknown actor or actors broke the padlock securing a fuel tank and stole the gasoline.

One injured in Warren Twp. crash

A Mechanicsburg woman crashed a utility vehicle on April 20 in LeRaysville, according to Towanda state police.

Police said Zainab Kanu, 52, of Mechanicsburg, was attempting to cross state Route 1049 in a 2011 Ranger RZ.

Kanu saw a vehicle coming and sped across the road where she struck a pole on the southbound berm of the road, police said.

Kanu suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.

Assault charges for Jermyn man

Towanda state police charged Darrick W. Holton, 35, of Jermyn, Pa., with simple assault following an incident in Ridgebury Township, state police said.

Police said Holton assaulted a female victim in the driveway of a residence on the Berwick Turnpike between 10 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. on April 21.

Police said he punched the victim in the face, grabbed her by the neck, and punched her in the thigh.

Brother charged after harassing sister in Smithfield

A man is accused of harassing his sister following a verbal argument on April 24 at about 4:30 p.m., according to Towanda state police.

Police said the argument turned physical and the accused pushed then struck his sister in the back.

Indecent assault reported

State police at Towanda said they are investigating an indecent assault of a juvenile that is reported to have occurred sometime between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. March 24 on East Troy Back Road in Troy Township.

Police said the suspect is a person known to the victim.

Handgun stolen

State police at Towanda said someone entered the vehicle of a 28-year-old resident sometime between March 15-25 on Jordin Lane in West Burlington Township, and stole a handgun.

Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at Towanda.

No injuries reported

No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash that took place at 12:32 p.m. April 5 on Southside Road in LeRoy Township, said state police at Towanda.

Police said Corbin C. Fuller, 20, of Towanda, was traveling east and lost traction on the roadway. His Ford F150 traveled across the westbound lane, before going down an embankment and striking a tree, police said. Police said Fuller and his passenger, neither of whom was injured, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Police said Fuller was charged with a violation of the vehicle code relating to safe speeds.

Knife found at school

COAL TOWNSHIP - Detective Jeff Brennan has charged a 17-year-old male student at Shamokin Area High School with possessing a knife on school grounds relating to an incident at 8 a.m. April 22.

Police said the Coal Township teen was found in possession of a knife upon going through the school's metal detectors.

The charge was filed through Northumberland County Juvenile Court Services.

Ordinance violations

COAL TOWNSHIP - Coal Township Code Enforcement Officer Chris Petrovich cited Marcos Velazquez, of 950 W. Pine St., Coal Township, and William Register, of 35 S. Poplar St., Coal Township, for violating ordinances pertaining to garbage accumulation at properties they own.

Velazquez is accused of allowing garbage and a box spring to accumulate in a rear yard at 939 W. Pine St. Register is charged with allowing approximately 40 bags of garbage to accumulate on the front porch at his home.

The citations were filed Friday.

Guilty pleas

SHAMOKIN - Two defendants pleaded guilty to charges Tuesday and were ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay fines and costs.

Tina Moyle, 41, of 425 N. Shamokin St., Apt. 4, Shamokin, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on consecutive probation for one year.

Moyle was charged by Shamokin Chief of Police Darwin Tobias III with possessing a tin foil smoking pipe at her apartment March 11.

Gary E. Dombroski Jr., 29, of 1115 W. Arch St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to a summary of harassment and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs. An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn.

Dombroski was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Christopher Williams with throwing his mother, Sandra Dombroski, to the floor April 19 at their home.

Car fire

FRACKVILLE - Police said Jennifer L. Honicker, 37, of Locust Gap, escaped injury when the 2008 Subaru Legacy she was driving along I-81 in Foster Township caught fire shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Trooper Edward Sanchez extinguished the blaze and the vehicle was towed.

Crash

BARRY TOWNSHIP - Police said Tracy A. Snyder, 48, of Pitman, was uninjured after the engine of the 1999 Ford F250 she was driving north on Taylorsville Road, caught fire Tuesday.

The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when the Lavelle and Pitman fire companies arrived to extinguish it. It was then towed from the scene.

Assault, drugs

MOUNT CARMEL - Carl Luke Fickinger, 41, of 145 S. Maple St., Mount Carmel, was arraigned Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of simple assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary offense of harassment after borough police chief Todd Owens said he struck a woman Wednesday.

Owens said the victim said Fickinger forced his way into the house by breaking the rear door and fell asleep. When he awoke, he began yelling at the victim and shoving her. He also grabbed and pulled her hair.

Fickinger ran from the scene after the victim called police and was located by Patrolman Brian Carnuccio of the Mount Carmel Borough police and David Tomtishen of the Mount Carmel Township police near the corner of Fifth and Apple streets. Owens found a piece of foil containing marijuana in Fickinger's possession during a pat-down, and Fickinger admitted he intended to smoke the marijuana after he finished working.

Fickinger was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Crash update

DANVILLE - Rosemary Sandoval, 20, of Chestnut Street, Kulpmont, was released from Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Wednesday.

Sandoval had been injured when her car went out of control on Snydertown Road, left the road and rolled over Tuesday.

Laceyville man charged with theft, trespassing

Towanda state police said Kevin Charles Lewis, 33, of Laceyville, was charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, and criminal trespass after two shooting stands were reported stolen from the Tri County Gun Club in Laceyville.

According to police, a member of the club saw the stands on an SUV on Feb. 12 at Lockburner scrap yard in Laceyville.

Police said the scrap yard owner related that Lewis dropped off the stands in exchange for $53.

Police said after confronting Lewis about the stands, he admitted to taking the stands and selling them for child support money.

Lewis has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on May 19 for his preliminary hearing.

Charges filed in Panda Power Plant copper theft

According to Towanda state police, charges were filed against Jesse Warren Gustin, 31, of Sayre, in connection to the theft of 12 feet of copper cable from the Panda Power Plant in Asylum Township on March 27.

Police said a plant superintendent saw the cable in Gustin's truck bed and later in the truck's cab.

After interviewing Gustin, police said Gustin told police he took the cable on March 27 and moved it into the cab because he did not want it to look suspicious, police said.

Police charged Gustin with theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property, according to police.

Gustin has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on May 5 for his preliminary hearing.

DUI charge

The following person was recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Steven Wayne Johnson, 42, of Wysox, by state police, on March 13, at a Dandy Mini Mart in Rome Borough. Johnson was also charged with careless driving. A chemical blood test later revealed Johnson's blood contained several prescription medications including Diazepam and Oxycodone. Johnson has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on May 26 for his preliminary hearing.
